Taking the phrase, “hanging by a thread” to a whole new level.
The two passengers in their 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty pulling a 30-foot camper experienced “hanging by a thread” a little too literally. A witness reported that the truck lost control and went off the side of the bridge. What stopped the truck and its two passengers (including their two dogs) from plummeting to the ground was the chain connecting the truck to the camper. Its unclear what caused the accident.
Three separate fire departments, state and local police, and paramedics all had to work together to safely rescue everyone involved. They reinforced the trucks original chain by attaching it to a semi truck. Rope rescue paramedics then rappelled down the side of the bridge, attached harnesses to the two passengers and pulled them to safety. They were able to save both dogs as well.
Since everyone was wearing seatbelts, the motorists suffered only minor injuries. The dogs were dropped off at a friends house while the passengers were taken to the hospital for a quick check up.
