There is a lot of talk about buying American, but in this modern world, buying American might not mean what you think it means. If you want to “buy American” you probably need to refine your thought process. Many foreign automakers build their cars right here in America, employing American workers and paying American taxes. Surprisingly, many cars built by American makers are built out of the country, but that’s a story for a different day. (Did you know that the Jeep Renegade is built in Italy?)
We collected this list of 10 cars that might surprise you that they are built right here in the good old US of A.

The Toyota Avalon
This popular sedan is built in Germantown, Kentucky at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Plant.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Mercedes, famous for its German precision and engineering but built in their plant outside Birmingham, Alabama.

Honda Accord
One the perennially best-selling cars in North America, the Accord has been built in Honda’s Marysville Plant, outside Columbus, Ohio, since 1982.

Toyota Tundra
The Toyota Tundra is the only full-size pickup truck manufactured in Texas. After being built for years in Indiana, Toyota switched production to it’s plant in San Antonio.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT
This German legend has been proudly built in Chattanooga, TN since 2011.

BMW X-SERIES
Every single X-series Beemer, no matter where it is sold in the world, is built at BMW’s huge plant in Greer, SC, near Spartanburg, SC.

Toyota Camry
In 2015 and 2016, the Camry was named “The Most American Car” as more than 75% of its parts were manufactured in America.

The Honda Odyssey
There is nothing more American than the Talladega Speedway in Talladega, Alabama. Just a few miles away is the Honda plant in Lincoln, AL where the Odyssey is built.

Kia Optima
Korean manufacturer Kia builds it’s best selling car in West Point, Georgia.

Volvo S60
So this one is a bit of a cheat, as up until now the S60 has been built in China. But starting in 2018, it’ll be built in a brand new Volvo plant in Ridgeville, SC.
