Let’s make one thing clear: as much as we would all love to take our rides to the limit and see where the red line really is, driving almost 200 mph on a public road is about the dumbest thing anyone can do. One North Carolina driver not only made the terrible decision to take his Dodge Challenger Hellcat up to 198 mph, he also posted a video of him doing it to YouTube. For his trouble, he’s been charged with reckless driving and street racing. The full video of his insane run is posted at the bottom of this story.

William Jefferson, a 22-year-old from Wake County, NC recorded a 7-minute video of him pulling various stunts with his Hellcat – donuts in a parking lot before opening the hood to show off the engine, you know, the basics. The video climaxes with the flat-out run attempting to bury the needle of the 800 bhp muscle car on a highway with a 65 mph speed limit. To Jefferson’s credit, he handles the car well. At that speed, all cars can be unpredictable and it takes some skill to even keep it in a straight line.

But skills don’t always equal smarts.

Posting the video of a car going 130 miles per hour over the speed limit might not have been the smartest idea either. The video was sent to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol by someone who must have witnessed it and filed a complaint. The police tracked down the speed demon, despite not identifying himself in the video, and charged him with the violations.

Finding the video online is a little tricky. These guys may be crazy enough to go almost 200 mph on a highway, but not so crazy as to just give up their identification.
