23 Cars That Bond Made Better

James Bond has been taking down organized crime for over 50 years, and that is just on film! Each and every movie features a unique 'Bond Car' for him to show boat in; some movies even have multiple iconic cars. Here are twenty-three cars that Bond made cool over the course of his first twenty-three films.

Sunbeam Alpine

In the first Bond film, “Dr. No,” made in 1962, Bond rents this car. The car was actually borrowed from an island resident as it was the only car suitable for the film that could be found near the filming area.

Bentley Mark IV

Bond does not drive the car in "From Russia With Love." He makes a call from the car phone, which was unheard of technology in 1963. The Bentley Mark IV was released 30 years earlier.

Aston Martin DB5

At the time of filming for "Goldfinger,” the DB5 had just been released. The film version had an ejector seat, smoke screens, and machine guns built in. It was the perfect spy car and quickly became “the” Bond car, returning for multiple films.

Lincoln Continental Convertible

In James Bond films, Lincolns are only featured a handful of times. In "Goldfinger,” the henchman Oddjob drives a Lincoln, which later gets crushed into a cube. Bond gets a ride to the airport to meet the president with a Continental motorcade. In the 1965 "Thunderball,” Bond used the blue Continental as his rental.

Toyota GT 2000

"You Only Live Twice" was filmed in Japan in 1967. Japan's first supercar was the Toyota GT 2000 and only 351 were ever produced. The car originally had a hard top, but due to Sean Connery's height, Toyota turned it into a convertible for the film.

Aston Martin DBS

“On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” from 1969 brought the return of the Aston Martin, albeit a different model than in “Goldfinger.” It was a car loaded with spy gadgets designed by Q. The car is the site of a very tragic ending however.

Ford Galaxie Sedan 500

Some goons knock Bond out and stuff him in the trunk of the Ford in "Diamonds Are Forever.” Ford used this to advertise their trunk space.

Chevrolet Impala Convertible

Roger Moore began his stint as the titular James Bond in "Live And Let Die" in 1973. This movie was released during racially charged times. The Chevy was referred to as a Ôpimpmobile'. There was no car chase in this one, but there was a chase by boat and another by double decker bus.

AMC Hornet X

Bond must steal the Hornet when his partner is kidnapped by Scaramanga in “The Man With The Golden Gun.” He steals the car from a dealership and drives it right through the showroom window with Louisiana-based Sheriff Pepper in the passenger seat. This film features the famous corkscrew jump over a broken bridge.

Lotus Esprit S1

In 1977, in "The Spy Who Loved Me," the Lotus transforms into a submarine, and he simply drove off a dock into the ocean. When it was safe, the car drove out of the water onto a crowded beach.

MP Lafer

When the 1979 Moonraker shuttle is stolen, it is up to Bond to get it back. An unknown Brazilian car, the MP Lafer, was featured in the movie "Moonraker,” but the real action in this movie takes place in space; kind of a spy flick meets “Star Wars.”

Citroen 2CV

In the 1981 "For Your Eyes Only,” Bond and a woman escape from the villains in a Citroen. It tips over once, but helpful passersby set it upright. The little French car was rife with bullet holes by the end of the chase scene. Not your average Bond car, but it was certainly iconic.

Range Rover Classic Convertible

In "Octopussy" from 1983, Bond drives a Range Rover pulling a horse trailer. The fake horse trailer actually contains the Acrostar Jet, which he uses to get away.

Renault 11

This is the last movie where Roger Moore plays James Bond. In “A View To A Kill” in 1985, a blue Renault French taxi is ‘borrowed’ by Bond for a chase scene.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante

Britain's first supercar was the Aston Martin. Q had this car all tricked out in "The Living Daylights" in 1987. It had a rocket booster, missiles, and lasers. Timothy Dalton is the new Bond, with a classic taste in cars.

Lincoln Mark VII LSC

In "License To Kill" from 1989, 007 goes renegade after he resigns from the British Secret Service. This is a personal vendetta for Bond who drives a Lincoln.

BMW Z3

Pierce Brosnan plays Bond in "Golden Eye" from 1995. Q modified the BMW for Bond, adding Stinger missiles behind the head lights, an ejector system, a parachute braking system, and all-points radar.

BMW 750iL

Q gives Bond the BMW 750iL in "Tomorrow Never Dies" from 1997. This is a four door stretch car, unlike the two door BMW Z3. It can also be driven by remote control and it has voice capability. There are Stinger missiles in the sunroof.

BMW Z8

In "The World Is Not Enough" in 1999, Bond has a new BMW because they keep getting destroyed. The new BMW Z8 has an unlikely ending. A helicopter with a large saw cuts it in half.

Ford Fairlane

When Bond asks for a fast car in Cuba, he is given a Ford in "Die Another Day" from 2002. The Ford is a pristine 1957 Fairlane in a cream and brown color.

Aston Martin DBS V12

Bond is played by Daniel Craig in "Casino Royale", released in 2006. The series reboots with an Aston Martin with secret compartments, one where he tucks away his Walther P99.
