18 On-Screen Cars You Just HAVE To Drive

TV and Film producers have come up with some pretty sweet rides over the years. We fell in love with these on-screen cars, and the thought of driving them gets us really excited. Which is your favorite?

Original Batmobile

Trust me, you’re not the only one who wants this hot ride–a man paid $4.6 million in 2013 to own the original car, the only one ever produced. The original Batmobile is a sleek black car with red accents. Not to be a downer, but unlike on TV, it doesn’t squirt oil, shoot flames, or slash tires.

Tim Burton-era Batmobile

Although Batman initially just referred to this replica of a Batmobile as “the car,” it soon took on the distinction of a “Batmobile.” It was specifically designed for the 1989 Batman film. It is often referred to by another moniker, the “Keaton-mobile,” the actor playing Batman.

Batmobile Tumbler

Appearing in the recent reboot of “Batman,” the Tumbler is a fan favorite. It is a tank-like vehicle that is over 15 feet long, two tons, and can go 160 miles per hour. It features advanced weaponry like a rocket launcher and two machine guns.

General Lee

General Lee is the car driven by cousins Luke and Bo in the TV series “Dukes of Hazard.” It’s not so much a spectacular car as it is iconic–for example, its doors don’t work, forcing the characters to climb out of its windows. It is also known for playing excerpts of the classic song “Dixie.”

Ghostbusters Ecto-1

The Ecto-1 is the vehicle that the “Ghostbusters” would use to track down ghosts. It has become an icon for the franchise. It has undergone various modifications in its different iterations, such as adding weapons in the cartoon version.

Drag-U-La

The Drag-U-La is found in the erstwhile American TV show “The Munsters.” The car’s body is notable for being made from fiberglass; it was built from a fiberglass coffin. Along with the “Munster Koach,” it is one of the two main car used in the series.

Mutt Cutts

With “Dumb and Dumber To” coming out soon, it is a perfect time to mention the Mutt Cutts Van. The van is decorated from hood to exhaust pipe to look like an over-sized dog, complete with ears, hikable leg to fuel up, and a tongue. It is set to make a return in the sequel so get excited!

KITT

The Knight Rider Two Thousand (KITT) appeared in the “Knight Rider” series. It is an all-black automobile with a Trans-Am like body. The series’ star, David Hasselhoff, put the vehicle up for auction in April 2014.

Bumblebee

Bumblebee is a staple in the “Transformers” franchise with two manifestations: one as a 16 to 18 foot tall yellow Autobot, and another as a compact car of the same color. In the live action “Transformers” movies directed by Michael Bay, Bumblebee takes on the form of a Chevy Camaro, instead of a VW Beetle. Bay said that the Beetle reminded him too much of films like “Herbie,” so he took Bumblebee in a different direction.

Family Truckster

This vehicle is from the 1983 comedy “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” George Barris, a famous designer and builder of custom cars, created it specifically for the film. The Family Truckster features faux wood paneling, light green paint, and eight headlights. And plenty of cargo room on the roof.

The Mach 5

In the 60s, Mach 5 was a sweet white sports car with a large “M” on the hood is a favorite of anime-racing fanatics everywhere. While many believe the “M” stands for Mach 5, the cars name, it actually stands for Mifune, which is the father-son pairs last name in the original Japanese anime. The design was completely changed for the 90s American remake, but it was still easy on the eyes.

Greased Lightning

From the hit 70s movie set in the 50s, Greased Lightning is every high school boys’ dream car. It is a sexy ride and fast to boot. That, and it has its own theme song.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

For all of the eccentric tinkers out there, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the car for you. A former racing car, wrecked and abandoned, Caractacus Potts takes on the job of fixing it up. He provides the magic touch, making the car fly. His kids loved it, and so do we!

Herbie the Love Bug

Herbie is a ’63 VW Beetle with a mind of his own. He doesn’t even need a driver: the ultimate cruise control! He is an unstoppable racer with a heart of gold.

Mystery Machine

Just what every team of detectives needs: a large flashy vehicle to announce their presence. That aside, the Mystery Machine is a must drive fictional car and is always stocked with more than enough Scooby snacks.

DeLorean

If you are a film director in the 80s, and you want to pick a car to use as a time machine, what better than a DeLorean right? Well, if it wasn’t for “Back to the Future,” DeLorean’s probably would have disappeared from existence, but they have been forever emblazoned in our hearts. The pop-up doors, flux-capacitor, and time-traveling capabilities make this car a classic.

Lightning McQueen

No list of famous cars would be complete without Pixar’s Lightning McQueen. From the hit movie “Cars,” Lightning is a world famous race car who finds himself stuck in a small town crippled by the interstate moving in and taking cars away from their businesses. Lightning learns how to be a good friend, and learns from valuable lessons from Doc Hudson along the way.

Flintstones Car
