Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 19th, 1945, RouteMagazine explains how Waldmire became famous through his drawings and artwork of Route 66. How did he get the inspiration for those iconic sketches? Why, by traveling along the Mother Road of course! What better way to do so than in the school bus he converted into a living space?

After his death in 2009, the bus was permanently parked at the Route 66 Museum in Pontiac, Illinois. Visitors can admire the intricate details of the van, and get a glimpse into what life was like for Waldmire on the road.
