19 Traffic Laws You Wouldn't Believe Actually Exist

Apparently lawmakers around the world don't have anything better to do than to pass laws to solve seemingly nonexistent problems, or some that seem like simple common sense.

No Splashing!

In Japan, if you drive through a puddle and splash a pedestrian, you might find yourself on the hook for a $65 ticket.

Superstition

In Manila, you’re not allowed to drive on a Monday if you license plate ends in the numbers 1 or 2. You can’t get fired for staying home from work because the law said so, right?

Drink & Drive

In Costa Rica, don’t worry about drinking and driving – you can have a beer so long as you don’t get drunk! I guess that technically makes sense.

Hay There

In Hackney, London, there’s still a law on the books stating that all carriages need to have a bale of hay and a bag of oats on them at all times.

Drunk Problems

If you feel like passing out in the middle of the road (we all have those days), think again if you’re in Eureka, California.

Alabama Blindfolds

It’s illegal to drive blindfolded in Alabama. You would think common sense would keep people from doing this, but apparently it needed to be made illegal. Politicians need something to do I guess.

Lantern Signal

In Alabama, yet again, you can drive down a one way street the wrong way as long as you have a lantern attached to the front of your car. It’s like a free pass to jamming up traffic!

That’s New

Not sure who has actually tried this. I hope by “used” they don’t mean “currently wearing” … how are girls supposed to raise money in a car wash now??

Swedish Lights

You better have long lasting bulbs on your car in Sweden- it’s a law that you must have them on 24 hours a day.

Massachusetts Monkeys

You’re asking for a ticket if you drive with a Gorilla in the back seat of your car when in Massachusetts. You know how annoying they can be as backseat drivers, it’s worse than driving drunk.

Don’t Duck Around Here

Late Night Honker

After 9:30 pm in Little Rock, Arkansas, you better not honk your horn inside of a restaurant or the police will come smashing through the wall to give you a ticket.

No Shooting Animals

Well this Californian law banning the shooting of animals from your car sounds like it makes perfect sense, except you CAN shoot whales from your car. Bad luck for the whales.

Connecticuit is For the Whale

Apparently we are trying to encourage whales to go from Cali to Connecticuit, since shooting whales from your car IS illegal there.

Black Car In Denver

Denver made it illegal to drive a black car on Sundays (for some reason). Looks like Batman wont be able to stop crime one day of the week.

Sexism in New Orleans

Women can’t drive unless they have a red warning flag. Something tells me no one follows this law anymore.
