Car theft is a distressingly common crime, but is there any data that indicates which models car thieves gravitate toward the most? Yes, and the numbers are staggering, particularly if you happen to drive a suburban favorite, the Honda Accord. A grand total of 51,290 Accords were reported stolen last year, more than any other car in America, more than 8,000 above than the second place Honda Civic (45,001).
Why the Accord, though? We suspect the numbers are biased somewhat by production, as Accords are certainly among the most commonly produced and sold cars. Apart from that, however, Honda (and the Accord model, in particular) are well known for their reliability and quality construction, which affords them (and their parts) a much higher resale value than many cars in the same class. So if you’re driving an Accord, watch out!
