According to insider whispers around the news space Apple has given the electric car a committed project designation, which has traditionally translated to the Cupertino-based company bringing it to fruition. The news of this move comes just a week after a meeting between Apple execs and California’s Department of Motor Vehicles to discuss the autonomous-vehicle testing regulations.
Apple reportedly upped their workforce on the project from 600 to 1800, likely meaning the hiring of automotive experts and possibly reassigning current employees to fulfill project needs. All the work is happening in a low-profile office and lab complex codenamed “SG05,” where Apple is keeping everything inside under their traditionally tight wraps. While there is no official release date, Apple is purported to have a goal — 2019.
