Have you ever seen these things on the side of the road and wondered what, if anything, they meant? They are known as RPMs, or Reflective Pavement Markers, and it turns out, they’re actually quite interesting, and can tell you some really useful things… if you’re in the know.
For example, have you ever seen the red side of one of these two sided ones? We hope not…
.
If you’ve seen the red side, that means you’re going the wrong way. Please stop driving in that direction, because you’ll probably hurt somebody. If you’re seeing the yellow or white sides, that means you’re on the right side of the road and looking at either the center line or a lane marker, respectively.
.
Some of the more interesting ones are the blue and green markers, which are actually primarily used by emergency vehicles. Blue markers indicate the presence of a fire hydrant, while green markers indicate roads that vehicles can use for access in gated communities. The more you know, right?
