Of the many mysteries of the Midwest, few are stranger than this one. Deep beneath the streets of Cincinnati are the derelict remains of an unfinished Subway system abandoned nearly a century ago! The project was conceived in the early 1900’s in the early age of rapid transit, but fell apart when political issues prevented the project from receiving adequate funding.
Due to inflation from WWI followed closely by the Great Depression, the project became financially untenable and was scrapped, but several unsuccessful attempts to resurrect the project followed. Even today though, the tunnels stand, and the remains of the unused trains still wait, perhaps forever, in the long-abandoned depot. Crazy, right?
