A Ferrari 360 Modena will set you back somewhere in the vicinity of $75K, depending on the year and the mileage. New, they were about $150K. That’s on the low end for Ferraris, but on the high end for just about anything else.

Most people, when they own a Ferrari, go out of their way to care for it. The wash it every weekend, get it serviced every six months whether they need to or not, heck, a lot of people won’t even drive them if there is even the slightest threat of rain in the forecast.

So what made a Florida man drive his into an inlet in Lake Worth, FL?

Apparently, Jesus was his co-pilot and told him to do it.

According to West Palm Beach County authorities, James Mucciaccio, Jr. drove his 360 straight off a dock at high speed and splashed into the inlet, sinking immediately. If not for the quick actions of a nearby fisherman, who jumped in the water and pulled Mucciaccio out of the car, he might not have made it.

When they fished Mucciaccio out of the drink and police asked him why he did it, he responded with some amazing words that made very little sense:

“Jesus told me to drive through a small gate and into a 6-foot window. Jesus made me the smartest man on earth and it’s so hard to have this much responsibility. Money is going to be irrelevant in two days, remember to smile.”

That’s right, Jesus made him do it.

The police had first responded when calls reported a dark Ferrari speeding on North Ocean Boulevard and authorities had spotted Mucciaccio parked illegally on the dock. Dashcam video from a police officer’s cruiser shows Mucciaccio getting back into the Ferrari, reversing and then gunning it off the dock.

The car settled to the bottom in about 30 feet of water and divers salvaged the car (or at least pulled it from the bottom) a couple of days later, raising it to the surface with airbags. There is probably nothing that can really salvage the car, it’s hard to believe anyone would take a look at the Carfax report on this ride and still want to make the purchase.

Then again, maybe someone wants a really low price on a used Ferrari 360, with some slight water damage. Well, not so slight, but you get the point.
